Stephan Engels, Chief Financial Officer of Danske Bank, has announced his decision to retire from executive leadership, effective March 1, 2025. Engels, who has served on the bank’s Executive Leadership Team since April 2020, cited his early announcement as a move to ensure a smooth transition of leadership.
“I am grateful for my time at Danske Bank, but all good things come to an end. I am confident that I will be able to pass the baton to capable leadership next year, leaving behind a strong organisation with a solid future strategy,” said Engels.
Danske Bank has appointed Cecile Hillary, currently Group Treasurer at Lloyds Banking Group, as the new CFO. Hillary will join the bank’s Executive Leadership Team by March 1, 2025, at the latest. With a background in leadership roles at Barclays, Morgan Stanley, and JPMorgan, Hillary brings extensive financial experience to her new position.
“I look forward to joining Danske Bank, a strong Nordic financial institution with an ambitious and thriving organisation,” Hillary stated.
