Pavel Durov, CEO of Telegram, has predicted that 2024 will be a transformative year for blockchain technology. Speaking on his Telegram channel, Durov stated, “2024 will go down in history as the year when hundreds of millions of people became familiar with blockchain. We’re proud that Telegram is at the epicenter of this societal transformation.”

To advance this shift, Telegram will launch a mini app store and an in-app browser that supports Web3 pages. Additionally, the platform will enhance its anti-fraud measures by displaying registration months and principal countries for public accounts and enabling organizations to issue labels for channels through mini apps. This aims to create a decentralized marketplace for third-party verification.

Telegram’s broader goals include developing decentralized tools such as non-custodial wallets and decentralized exchanges to facilitate secure cryptocurrency transactions. Durov highlighted that advancements like the Open Network (TON) are pivotal for reducing reliance on centralized intermediaries.

On Monday, Durov also announced that Telegram has reached 950 million monthly active users, up from 900 million in the spring. The platform is now on track to surpass one billion users.
