SkyCity Entertainment Group has announced the appointment of Avril Baynes as the interim Chief Operating Officer (COO) for its Australian operations. This decision follows the resignation of David Christian, who has served as the Chief Operating Officer in Australia at SkyCity.

David Christian, a long-time member of staff, will be stepping down from his role on April 12, 2024. During his tenure, Christian held several senior positions within SkyCity since joining in 2005, showcasing exemplary leadership and resilience, particularly in overseeing the SkyCity Adelaide business through challenging times.

However, Christian’s departure comes amidst financial challenges faced by SkyCity, with the company recently dealing with issues related to money laundering allegations.

Commenting on Christian’s departure, Callum Mallet, Interim Chief Executive Officer of SkyCity, expressed gratitude for Christian’s dedication and leadership over the years. Mallet highlighted Christian’s significant contributions and wished him well in his future endeavours.

As the transitions occur, Avril Baynes will assume the role of interim COO for the Australian operations. Baynes brings a wealth of experience to the role, currently serving as the General Manager of Hospitality at the company’s Adelaide branch. Her extensive background includes leadership roles in the hospitality and gaming industry, including her tenure as General Manager of the Mindil Beach Casino Resort in Darwin, Australia.
