Barclays has appointed Jonathon Traer-Clark as the head of Americas for its global transaction banking (GTB) business, a newly created role aimed at expanding the bank’s presence in the region. Traer-Clark will be based in New York and report to Karen Braithwaite, Barclays’ global head of transaction banking.

Traer-Clark brings significant experience to Barclays, having previously served as managing director of global treasury management at Wells Fargo. He also spent seven and a half years at Bank of America in similar roles.

In his new position, Traer-Clark will focus on executing GTB’s growth strategy by supporting the US operations of European and UK treasury teams of large corporate, financial services, and institutional clients.

“Our transaction banking business is on a multi-year journey of growth in the Americas, and Jonathon, who brings tremendous expertise, will be central to that and our continued execution for clients,” said Braithwaite. “We increasingly hear from UK and European domiciled clients that they are looking for innovative payments and cash management solutions in the US.”

This appointment follows several strategic hires in GTB Americas over the past year, including Arthur Northrop’s appointment in January as head of payments and cash management for the Americas. Northrop joined Barclays after a 25-year tenure at JP Morgan.
